After law school, Barry began his professional career with Arthur Andersen & Co. As a Tax Senior, he focused on sophisticated tax and financial accounting matters for businesses and high net worth individuals, including tax planning and structuring, and financial accounting and tax compliance. He also participated in structuring and writing a training course on charitable and gift planning.
Thereafter, as a partner in a boutique law firm, Barry was responsible for reviewing, negotiating and writing business and professional employment agreements, non-qualified and qualified deferred compensation (pension, 401k, etc.) agreements and plans, operating and shareholders agreements for limited liability companies and corporations, agreements and plans for nontaxable and taxable mergers, acquisitions and reorganizations, and structuring complex business and health care transactions along with related tax planning.
As an offshoot to providing these services, Barry interacted with high net worth individuals to provide asset protection and estate planning advice, and individually- designed estate planning documents, including wills, general durable powers of attorney, irrevocable and revocable trusts and health care directives and powers (“living wills”).
Barry then became a partner with a major regional law firm and the co-chair of the tax and business department. He continued to render the same services on a more diversified basis, including providing the services to public companies.
Barry’s unique experience in a “big five” accounting firm, his M.B.A., his legal and graduate legal education and experience is invaluable in performing the above services, in understanding the more sophisticated aspects of tax, business and individual planning and in conferring and interacting with certified public accountants, public accountants and other financial and insurance advisors to form a strong “team” of coordinated advisors for their clients.
